The theatre group was founded in August 1997 with the aim to provide a variety of amateur entertainment. Known as the Westgate Pavilion Theatre Group, it consisted of mainly adults, however children were invited to perform as and when needed within shows. It was decided in 2002 that the group would expand, forming its own youth section that have since gone on to stage many successful productions. Due to the constant growth of the group it was decided in 2004 to move to a more appropriate base at The Centre, Birchington. It was thus decided the group needed a new name and are now known as Act 1 Theatre Group. In recent months we moved to a new base, at the Walpole Bay Hotel, Cliftonville.

Act 1 is run and supported by a hard working and dedicated committee of volunteers. We are a non-profit making group with all monies made being put towards future projects. The committee regularly arrange fundraising events such as bingo nights and sponsored walks for all members to participate in. The group enjoy showcasing a variety of talents and therefore produce plays, musicals, pantomimes and variety shows. We also enjoy participating in local events, including Margate Carnival, to gain publicity for upcoming shows and gain interest from new prospective members.

We welcome anyone over the age of 7 regardless of gender, culture, experience or disability. We like to let everyone have a chance to shine and enjoy seeing members grow during their time with the group. Whether you like to perform, would like to get involved backstage or give your ideas on the creative team; get in touch!

We always love to meet new faces.
